ISO 11898-1:2015
ISO has published the new edition of the CAN data link layer standard. It comprises the Classical CAN and the CAN FD protocol.
CiA 417 update released
The CANopen SIG Lift has updated the CiA 417 specifications and released the CiA 814 implementation guideline for the boot-loader.
CiA 402-4 released
Version 1.0.0 of the CiA 402-4 profile for safety functionality of drives and motion control has been released as Draft Standard Proposal. It is available for CiA members.
IEC 61800-7-201/301:2015
IEC has published the second edition of the IEC 61800-7 series, which contains the CiA 402 CANopen drives and motion control profile (-201/-301).
China seminar tour
The 2nd CiA China seminar tour has been started successfully in Xi'an with ZLG as partner. About 80 participants attented the first event.
CAN time-stamping

IEC 61851-1 with CANopen annex

CiA community
The CAN community is huge. More than two billion of CAN nodes are installed annually. And this figure is still growing. The number of CAN fellows organized in the nonprofit CiA users’ and manufacturers’ group is much smaller. Due to new CAN data link layer (CAN XL and CAN FD Light) and new CAN physical medium attachment developments (CAN SIC and CAN SIC XL), the membership is growing, too. There are also new members interested in CiA profile developed for new markets such as battery management, fire-fighting equipment, etc.
“We take the already existing ideas in communication technology as well as in human communication, arrange them newly, and new specifications and recommendations are born,” said Holger Zeltwanger, CiA Managing Director.
