CAN XL physical layer (part 1)

to CANXL

The CAN XL physical layer is introduced in two webinars. This first session provides an overview of the CAN XL physical layer, explains its coexistence with physical layers used by legacy CAN generations, and discusses system-level design and testing aspects for robust and error-free in-vehicle communication.

Agenda*

CAN SIC XL transceiver - an overview (Dr. Arthur Mutter, Bosch**)

  • Compatibility with older transceivers
  • CAN SIC XL transceiver properties: Two modes, mode switch signaling
  • Performance comparison

CAN testing: From implementation to system-wide integration (Patrick Isensee, C&S**)

  • Short update on available tests for CAN XL implementations (data link layer, and physical layer)
  • Ensuring interoperability and robust, error-free in-vehicle network communication by performing precise validation through simulation and measurement
  • Physical layer validation concept is covering all CAN variants from CAN CC, to CAN FD, CAN SIC, and CAN SIC XL

CAN XL physical layer - system view (Danny Bacic, Texas Instruments**)

  • “Mixed” networking capabilities for CAN FD and CAN XL
  • Compatibility and interoperability of CAN XL solutions with CAN FD solutions

* Preliminary agenda; subject to be changed.
** CiA would like to express its gratitude to its members Bosch, C&S, and Texas Instruments for their active support and for sharing their expertise and real-world experiences.
