PN/CAN-Gateway, Profinet/CANopen

With the PN/CAN-Gateway the connection of CAN nodes (e.g. drive, frequency inverter) to Profinet is possible. Gateway variants supporting CANopen and J1939 higher-layer protocols, as well as forwarding “CAN-layer 2” frames, are available. On the Profinet side, the PN/CAN gateway is a Profinet I/O device and supports bit-rates up to 100 Mbit/s full duplex. On the CAN side, it supports bit-rates up to 1 Mbit/s.

The I/O data of the CAN participants is transparently displayed in a freely configurable manner on the Profinet network and can thus be processed directly in the PLC. The PN/CAN gateway is integrated with a GSDML file in the hardware configurator and can be fully configured there. No other software tools for configuration or handling blocks for programming are necessary. The features are rounded off by MRP (media redundancy protocol), extensive diagnostic functions, and an interface for online diagnostics.

The PN/CAN gateway CANopen Master implements the CANopen NMT (network management) manager functionality. It also supports the SYNC messages, node guarding and heartbeat for monitoring of the participants, as well as the layer setting services (LSS). Up to 16 PDOs (process data objects) can be configured for each connected CANopen device. It is also possible to configure the CANopen participants using SDO (service data objects) messages and to administer emergency messages.
