Growing sale of CAN solutions amid pandemic times

Autonomous vehicle technology is still demanded during the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. Also, the growth of industrial automation and smart healthcare has continued. Altogether, this means that Innodisk's CAN solutions are still required.

The company is supplier of CAN products in the autonomous vehicle, automation, and medical markets. As a result, Innodisk's CAN product line sold nearly doubled in the first half of 2020, with unit sales in that period already surpassing full-year sales in 2019, explained the company.

Autonomous vehicles

Autonomous vehicle systems depend on many sensors in lidar, radar, and camera systems for autonomous navigation in diverse roadside environments. This number of sensors requires that the vehicle controller system is equipped with enough CAN ports.

The company designed its four-port M.2 to CAN expansion module EGPC-B4S1 (the CAN Newsletter reported) to address this demand. The expansion module provides vehicle controller systems with four additional CAN interfaces per card, suiting autonomous vehicles' demands for CAN interfaces. These CAN modules meet the requirements of ISO 11898-1 and support the higher-level protocols J1939 and CANopen. The CAN expansion modules are designed for industrial applications, featuring support for temperatures ranging from -40 °C +85 °C, electrostatic discharge protection (air: 15 kV, contact: 8 kV), as well as 2 kV Hipot protection.
