Target detection regardless shape and material

XX Ultrasonic sensors (formerly Osisense) from Telemechanique Sensors perform contactless object detection. Providing a J1939 interface, they are suitable for use in mobile machines.

The reliable object detection is possible regardless of light conditions, target’s shape, texture, color, or transparency, informs the manufacturer. Capable of withstanding harsh environments, the sensors can operate in diffuse, reflex, and thru-beam modes. The devices are available with IP65, IP67, or IP69K degree of protection. They can work at supply voltages from 9 V_DC to 32 V_DC. Operation temperature ranges from -40 °C to +70 °C. The integral connector as well as the available cabling and fixing accessories simplify device’s installation.

The sensor line includes ultrasonic sensors (cylindrical or flat format) with solid-state discrete output provided with adjustable sensing distances of 5 cm to 8m. Further, the cylindrical ultrasonic sensors for level monitoring enable control of two levels (emptying and filling levels) with sensing distances from 50 cm to 2 m. Other sensor variants (cylindrical or flat format) are available with analog outputs of 4 mA to 20 mA or 0 V to 10 V. Adjustable sensing distances from 50 cm to 8 m are enabled.

The recent features of the sensor line include the E2-certification, which considers the immunity to electromagnetic interference, important for device’s use in demanding applications such as mobile equipment. Detection of small targets and poorly-reflective as well as curved surfaces is also feasible. With the recently-invented ‘synchronization’ feature it is possible to reliably detect objects over a large area with minimal risk of cross-talk between multiple sensors, even when the ultrasonic sensors are installed closer together, says the company. For set up and customization of the sensors, the Ultrasonic XX Software is available. Basic and advanced parameters such as operating mode, window area, hysteresis, and echo options can be adjusted to fit specific applications.
