Weighing cells

Certified for aseptic production

The CANopen-connectible PW27A and PW37P load cells from HBM are available for hygienic weighing up to 20 kg or up to 200 kg, respectively.

The PW27A single-point load cells are dedicated for the food and pharmaceutical industry. Complying with the strict EHEDG (European Hygienic Engineering & Design Group) specifications, they are suited for filling, packing, and weighing beverages, and other food products. Due to the special design of the stainless-steel measuring body in conjunction with the solid stainless-steel pipe housing, the cells are hermetically sealed and robust (IP68/IP69K degree of protection). This allows quick and thorough cleaning, even with high-pressure washers. Because of the integrated and encapsulated overload protection (up to ten times of the maximum capacity) the load cells provide the usual functionality, e.g. if someone accidentally steps on them while cleaning the machine.

The PW37P platform load cell was designed for the needs of the food industry. Its EHEDG certification stands for the highest level of hygiene. Due to its particularly smooth surface, liquids roll right off and dirt can be removed. The load cell can be integrated into any system due to its industry-standard mounting dimensions, claims the manufacturer. A long service life is guaranteed due to its high torsional stiffness and durable materials that can withstand moisture or aggressive chemicals (IP68/IP69K protection).

With the aid of the PAD digital transducer, the measured analog values of the weighing cells can be digitized, visualized, and communicated to a connected PLC (programmable logic controller) via CANopen. The transducer’s rounded stainless-steel, IP68/IP69K-rated enclosure protects the electronics from liquids and adverse environmental conditions. The PAD is connected to the load cell in a plug-and-play manner using an M12 plug connector. It can be installed close to the load cell or remotely in a control cabinet, depending on the application.
