CANopen

Plug-in motor controllers

The plug-in motor controllers of the CPB series from Nanotec can be integrated into existing applications and customer boards. CANopen variants of the product are available. CiA 301, CiA 402, CiA 306, and CiA 305 are supported.

The series is suitable to control stepper motors or BLDC motors and is used as a component in drive systems in a range of industrial applications. The controller must be connected to motors via a suitable motherboard. The system boundary of the CPB ends at the connectors Available in three sizes with rated power of 150 W, 300 W, and 750 W, the motor controllers have the same features and identical pin assignments on the logic connector.

As a result, several performance classes of a customized carrier board or multi-axis board can be realized. In combination with extended features such as the acceleration feed-forward and jerk-limited ramps, the field-oriented torque, speed and position control provides optimum dynamic performance and thus cycle time, explained the company. In addition to motor feedback via Hall sensors, incremental encoders, or SSI encoders, it is also possible to integrate a second rotary encoder.

Protocols such as CANopen, Ethercat, Modbus TCP, and Modbus RTU are supported. To address the controller CANopen can be used. The controller can function in a network as a responder. The following CANopen profiles are supported:

  • CiA 301 CANopen application layer and communication profile - Application layer and communication profile, version: 4.2.0
  • CiA 402 device profile for drives and motion control - Part 1: General definitions, version: 3.0.0
  • CiA 402 drives and motion control device profile - Part 2: Operation modes and application data, version: 3.0
  • CiA 402 drives and motion control device profile - Part 3: PDO mapping, version: 3.0
  • CiA 306 electronic device description - Part 1: Electronic Data Sheet and Device Configuration File, version: 1.3.5
  • CiA 305 layer setting services (LSS) and protocols, version 3.0.0

As the hardware wiring for the fieldbus, the input/output and the encoders are provided on the carrier board, the controllers can be adapted to individual requirements. With a rated current of 3 A / 6 A / 15 A and peak currents of 9 A / 18 A / 45 A, the modules are compatible with both small and larger BLDC and stepper motors. For the evaluation and test phase, Nanotec offers various carrier boards on request.
