This tool is an implementation of the SAE J1939-84 specifications for etools.org

This tool is used to verify that vehicles and/or devices are capable of communicating a required set of information, in accordance with the diagnostic messages specified in SAE J1939-73, to fulfill the off-board diagnostic tool interface requirements contained in various government regulations, including the HD OBD regulations by US EPA and California’s Air Resources Board (ARB).

New features include:

  • Support for ‘24 MY SPs to match the J1939DA (Q3 2022) release
  • Support for DM (diagnostic message) 58
  • Support for NOx binning arrays
  • Support for GHG tracking arrays (including [H]EV arrays)
  • Streamlined data stream sampling (broadcasted on request queries now accepted)
  • Additional SP-FMI combinations allowed for required monitor test results
  • ASC format raw logs replace Java-script format
  • Improved housekeeping allowances for permanent fault erasure by general denominator

The improved data collection methods developed for version 3.1.20 are being used to underpin the addition of NOx binning and GHG tracking queries to the ‘IUMPR’ (l)(3) tool. This work is now underway. Allowances for test results that run KOEO, and allowances for tests that are not enabled by stationary vehicle operating conditions, are planned to follow the (l)(3) tool.

The next maintenance contract will add new CSERS data support to the (l)(1) and (l)(3) tools, and initiate support to implant multiple faults to check more than one DEC ECU. Funding requests will be expected during Q3/Q4 2023 for the next maintenance contract. The quotation package for this work is under development.
