Rohde & Schwarz recently showcased its latest test and measurement solutions. One of them is the CAN XL oscilloscope. The R&S MXO 4 is a four-channel oscilloscope which features a 13,3‑inch full-HD capacitive touchscreen. It comes with a real-time update rate of 4,5 million waveforms per second. The 12‑bit ADC has 16 times the resolution of traditional 8-bit oscilloscopes at all sample rates, said the company. At the exhibition, visitors experienced the oscilloscope first-hand in a serial protocol and decode setup, showcasing its CAN XL trigger and decode capability. The oscilloscopes feature CAN_H and CAN_L signal types and support arbitration bit rates between 100 kbit/s und 1 Mbit/s. This means they cannot be used in networks longer than 500 m. The products feature FD/XL data phase bitrates up to 15 Mbit/s. Theoretical, the CAN SIC XL transceivers can run up to 20 Mbit/s in linear topologies with short stubs.
