The ISO TC22 SC31 WG4 is updating the following CAN-related standards: ISO 11992-1 and ISO 11992-3 (truck-trailer network) and ISO 26021-2 (end-of-life activation of on-board pyrotechnic devices). More info: standard(at)can-cia.org.
CANopen product panels
As usual, CiA shows on its EmbeddedWorld booth panels with CANopen products. CiA members interested in presenting their products on the CiA stand should contact exhibitions(at)can-cia.org.
Happy New Year
We wish all CAN product manufacturers and users a successful 2017. The CAN community is looking forward to the 25th anniversary of the CAN in Automation (CiA) association. The first event is the 16th iCC in Nuremberg (Germany).
CANopen profile for IO-Link
In the inaugural meeting of the CANopen SIG IO-Link it was agreed to standardize the access to IO-Link devices from CANopen. Interested parties may contact: service(at)can-cia.org.
ISO 11898-2:2016
The high-speed CAN physical layer standard specifying data-phase bit rates up to 5 Mbit/s has been released as ISO 11898-2:2016. It substitutes ISO 11898-2:2003, and ISO 11898-5 as well as ISO 11898-6. More info: service(at)can-cia.org.
ISO 16845-1:2016
ISO has released a new revision of the CAN conformance test plan. This covers the data link layer and the physical signaling of Classical CAN and CAN FD as specified in ISO 11898-1:2015. More info: secretary(at)can-cia.org.
CANopen FD PDO mapping
The CiA 402 motion control profile supports 64-byte PDOs. Part 6 specifies the PDO mapping for CAN FD messages. It has been released CiA internally. Comments and questions are welcome: secretary(at)can-cia.org.
ISO 11992-1 and -3 review
ISO updates the truck/trailer network standard. New functions such as lane departure monitoring require more bandwidth. The project has just been prolonged until January 2018. Interested parties may contact headquarters(at)can-cia.org.
Service robots are coming
CiA cooperates with the JARA association to internationally standardize service robot modules. Interested parties are invited to contact CiA via email: headquarters(at)can-cia.org.
CANopen plugfest in Italy
CiA organizes a plugfest in Milan on November 17. CiA members are invited to prove the interoperability of their CANopen products with PLC by B&R. More info: secretary(at)can-cia.org.
The problems are solved, not by giving new information, but by arranging what we have known since long.
CiA community
The CAN community is huge. More than two billion of CAN nodes are installed annually. And this figure is still growing. The number of CAN fellows organized in the nonprofit CiA users’ and manufacturers’ group is much smaller. Due to new CAN data link layer (CAN XL and CAN FD Light) and new CAN physical medium attachment developments (CAN SIC and CAN SIC XL), the membership is growing, too. There are also new members interested in CiA profile developed for new markets such as battery management, fire-fighting equipment, etc.
“We take the already existing ideas in communication technology as well as in human communication, arrange them newly, and new specifications and recommendations are born,” said Holger Zeltwanger, CiA Managing Director.
