Joint call for experts: CiA 447 series

CAN in Automation and European Mobility Group jointly invite experts to participate in a dedicated review meeting of the CiA 447 specification addressing interfaces for the integration of adaptations for drivers and passengers with reduced mobility.

Following recent technical discussions between representatives of both organizations, including Dr. Jack Short, President of the European Mobility Group, it has become evident that companies performing vehicle conversions are facing increasing challenges. These challenges are primarily driven by rising cybersecurity concerns and the implementation of UN ECE Regulation 155. This regulation requires vehicle manufacturers to operate certified cybersecurity management systems, which also affect modifications, retrofits, and interfaces used by third party conversion companies.

CiA 447 already provides a standardized technical basis for accessing vehicle information from the in vehicle network and for transmitting control commands from adaptation systems to the vehicle network. A structured review and potential enhancement of this specification may provide a harmonized and compliant framework supporting both OEMs and conversion companies in fulfilling UNECE 155 requirements.

Objectives of the meeting

  • Review the current scope and technical content of CiA 447
  • Identify cybersecurity related requirements and potential gaps in view of UNECE 155
  • Clarify technical and organizational responsibilities between OEMs and conversion companies
  • Discuss possible extensions, profiles, or security mechanisms within CiA 447
  • Define next steps and a roadmap for further standardization activities

Invitation to participate

CiA and the European Mobility Group invite participation from:

  • OEM representatives
  • Suppliers and system integrators
  • Companies performing vehicle conversions for persons with disabilities
  • Technical services and approval authorities
  • Representatives of related organizations such as OCEV, VFMP, and other relevant bodies
