CANopen profile for drives and motion control

The CiA 402 internationally standardized in IEC 61800-7-201/301 is under systematic review. The related CANopen SIG (special interest group) discusses the already submitted change requests.

The CiA 402 internationally standardized in IEC 61800-7-201/301 is under systematic review. The related CANopen SIG (special interest group) discusses the already submitted change requests.

The CAN SIG motion control reviews the submitted IEC comments and functional extensions. This includes 64-bit parameters as well as new operation modes. Member companies may submit additional change requests and new functions.

IEC 61800-7-201 specifies the operation modes and the related parameters (process data and configuration data). IEC 61800-7-301 describes the mapping to different communication technologies including CANopen (CiA 301). It contains the generic PDO mapping and the type-specific mapping for inverters respectively for servo/stepper controllers. The CiA 402-2 and CiA 402-3 specifications are functional compatible with the IEC documents. They are used CiA-internally to develop the IEC standards.

CiA 402 compliant drives and motion controllers are offered by nearly all market-leading suppliers as well as by numerous mid-sized and small companies. The CiA 417 CANopen application profile for lift control system references several CiA 402-2 parameters. There are additional CiA 402 parts standardizing functional safety (CiA 402-4) and the mapping to CANopen FD (CiA 402-5).
