A word from the CiA Managing Director

The program committee has selected from the submitted abstracts 23 papers to be presented at the 17th international CAN Conference (iCC) in Baden-Baden (Germany). The conference will take place on March 17th and 18th, 2020. Emotas, Gemac, Peak-System, and Vector sponsor this event. After some minor errors, CiA has updated the iCC program for 2020.

The program comprises eight sessions (CAN physical layer, CAN XL data link layer, CANopen testing, CANopen FD, CAN FD lower layers, engineering, security, and CAN XL higher layer functions. It is obvious that the hottest topic is the introduction of CAN XL, the next CAN data link layer generation. The CAN XL specification series also includes CAN XL higher-layer functions, which are addressed for example in the paper by Peter Decker (IP concepts on CAN XL).

By the way, the 1st iCC conference was held in 1994, two years after the CiA association has been established. Next year’s iCC, the 17th of its kind, gives CAN-interested engineers the chance to meet experts from all over the world, in order to exchange knowledge and experiences with Classical CAN and CAN FD. Additionally, the next CAN data link generation is presented in detail. The conference is accompanied as usual by a tabletop exhibition.

CAN XL providing a payload of up to 2048 byte is what the automotive industry and other markets are waiting for. The achieved Hamming distance of six, guarantees a higher reliability compared with other communication technologies. This is important for all mission-critical applications. CAN XL features as the other CAN solutions a unique high scalability, which is important for price-sensitive markets.

The iCC is an excellent opportunity to get first-hand information on CAN technologies. CAN-interested engineers should not miss this event. Hope to see you in Baden-Baden next year. Online registration is open.

Sometimes less is more: CIM integrates CWT

CiA office has decided to merge the CiA Weekly Telegraph (CWT) into the monthly distributed CAN Info Mail (CIM). What means this for CWT subscribers? They receive the CIM just once per month, which includes the references to the CAN Newsletter Online articles plus additional interesting information of the CAN community. What means this for CIM subscribers? They get the same information as before, but additional references to the articles published in the CAN Newsletter Online. There is one thing, which we cannot solve. If you have subscribed to both email services using different email addresses, you will receive the new CIM twice. Of course, you can unsubscribe one of them at any time. We hope, you appreciate to get less emails from CiA, but with an extended content.

CAN technology days

In November, CAN technology days are scheduled for Atlanta, USA (November 12), Philadelphia, USA (November 13), and Toronto, Canada (November 14). For all these CAN technology days, there is the opportunity for CiA members to sponsor them by means of participating in the accompanying tabletop exhibition.

For more details you may contact events(at)can-cia.org.
