CAN FD: First-hand information

The nonprofit CAN in Automation (CiA) international users’ and manufacturers’ group organizes CAN FD Tech Days.

CAN FD is the data link layer protocol based on the Classical CAN standard (ISO 11898-1). The events provide first-hand information on CAN FD standardization, related higher-layer protocols, and products including CAN controller and transceiver chips as well as interface boards and tools. They are sponsored by different CiA members and are accompanied by a tabletop exhibition. The first one-day event takes place in Munich (March 19) followed by the CAN FD Tech Day in Detroit (March 25). The next one will be in San Jose (June 16). For more details, see the event calendar on CiA’s website. The CAN FD Tech Days are intended for participants with a basic knowledge of CAN technology. For newcomers, CiA offers one-day CAN/CAN FD seminars on request introducing the Classical CAN and the CAN FD lower-layers. In Germany, those seminars are scheduled regularly about four times a year. In Finland, the CiA Competence Center at the Vaasa university held a CAN FD event in February. For questions and further information please contact Cindy Weissmueller (weissmueller(at)can-cia.org).
