June 2021

A word from the CiA Managing Director

Do not miss the party: It is still possible to register for the 17th international CAN Conference (iCC). The program comprises first-hand presentations on CAN XL and other topics including CAN FD Light. Very important are also the C3 (CiA CAN Coffee) sessions. At the end of each of the four conference days, the session chairs and the speakers are available for answering questions. Of course, this is also an opportunity to have open discussion on any CAN-related topic. It is a chance to meet CAN experts from all over the world, to exchange experiences and knowledge.

I will be available in all the C3 sessions trying to understand the needs of users and to develop jointly with other CiA fellows in the future appropriate solutions. The C3 session is also a very good opportunity for social networking. Of course, face-to-face conferences are better, but in times of the Covid-19 pandemic we need to learn to do social networking in online conferences.

In 1994 when I had the idea to organize the 1st iCC in Mainz (Germany), I did not think that there will be a 17th conference in 2021. But there is one. The program is very exciting: with the official introduction of the third CAN data link layer generation, the CAN XL protocol and the CAN XL SIC physical layer with a bit rate of 10 Mbit/s and possibly more.

I am looking forward to meet many new CAN fellows. I am still hungry on new ideas and to learn from others. I am not stopping to improve my knowledge.
