A trip around the world
The largest model railway on earth and one of the most successful leisure tourist attractions in Germany – Miniatur Wunderland (Miniature Wonderland) in Hamburg – invites visitors to a little trip around the world. Authentically recreated details on 4 000 m² of exhibition space make this trip an unforgettable adventure. More than four million people have already seen Miniatur Wunderland.“Passengers” see and experience the most varied regions of the world: from the Baltic Sea with its coastal region and Hamburg, the city of the ancient Hanseatic trading league, through the now famous Knuffingen fantasy attraction to the panorama of Southern German mountains. Visitors to the “high North” can expect a tour of Scandinavia with its shimmering ice landscapes – created from real water – on which ships can also be seen. A hop over the “big pond” takes visitors to America where they experience more of this continent with its attractive travel destinations, such as Las Vegas, the most colorful city in the world. Night comes every 15 minutes in Miniatur Wunderland. Countless lights and signals come on, making objects visible that were completely obscured “during the day.” According to the operator’s information, more than 500 000 work hours have already gone into Miniatur Wunderland. About 700 trains with over 10 000 cars and about 300 cars make their way through the entire system as if moved by an invisible hand. 150 000 figures create a deceptively authentic image of reality. Construction costs of the system so far total about 8,7 million Euros.
