CANopen^® profile for drilling machines

Nuremberg, Germany, August 9,2010. The CiA 455 application profile is suitable for construction machinery with drilling functions such as rotary drilling rigs. It has been designed with special regard on positioning and tool control. The CANopen profile specifies the electronic interfaces for several units including feeder, position, tool, mast, winch, material tank, and sensor control units as well as the drilling controller. Besides process data and configuration parameters, the profile recommends bit-rates, connectors, and some other physical layer parameters. CANopen is an internationally standardized communication system used in many application fields including mobile off-road machinery.
The standardized interfaces simplify the system integration and allow the use of third party units. The application profile has been published CiA-internally, but an excerpt is available also for non-members. It is the second profile for construction machines; the first was the CiA 415 profile for sensor systems of road construction machines such as pavers and compactors.
