DeviceNet in textile machines

Karl Mayer Textile Machines of Obertshausen (Germany) is a leading equipment supplier in the textile industry – an industry that requires high-speed automation capable of complex and extremely precise motion, yet is easy to set up. Karl Mayer`s Rob-o-matik is a case in point.
The machine performs complicated motions for six servo axes to make warps, long sections of horizontal threads that go to looms for further processing. Because warping relies on tight control, the OEM wanted to optimize performance between the Rob-o-matik`s control and motion equipment while meeting user demands for fast, easy setups. It did so by networking the equipment on DeviceNet.
Producing perfect warps means maintaining an exact yarn position while regulating yarn diameter and tension. The design achieves all this precision with seven programmable servo systems and closed-loop process control. It connects analog variables and encoder feedback via the DeviceNet devices located around the machine for precise, real-time control.
