Maritime vehicles

In ships, vessels, and other maritime applications, it is mandatory to use bus-line redundancy and to provide fault-tolerance. CAN has been chosen for several ship automation systems using a global CAN network as backbone and local CAN networks within the sub-systems (e.g. navigation, power management, engine and cargo control). Also on-ship cranes and other equipment use CAN-based control systems.

Application examples

  • Maritime electronics
  • Propulsion control system for vessels
  • With CAN network across the seven seas
  • CAN switches used in steering system
  • Electronic vessel control system
  • Solar boat
  • Failure-tolerant marine automation system
  • Trawler automation with DeviceNet

Transportation:

  • Passenger cars
  • Heavy duty vehicles
  • Trains and rail vehicles
  • Maritime vehicles
  • Aircrafts and aerospace vehicles
