Tram uses CANopen-based controllers
CAN Newsletter Online April 2012
For the first time, Voith Turbo is supplying both mechanical and electrical drive components. These include the high-voltage gear, traction current converter, motor/gearbox units, axles, wheels and the vehicle control system with diagnostic unit by Selectron (Switzerland). The trams for HKL combine conventional bogie mechanisms with modern low-floor technology. The climate and route requirements typical of Helsinki were taken into account. Special design measures prevent snow and ice from collecting in the area of the roof gear.
Selectron supplies the entire train control and management system (TCMS), including diagnostic unit and sub-control components. Modules from the MAS 83x-T and MAS 73x-T controller families as well as HMIs are used. CANopen and Ethernet are used as network technologies. The controllers are programmable in IEC 61131-3 languages. The Swiss manufacturer also provides the Symphony projecting and programming tool. All modules are in accordance with EN 50155 and EN 50121.
