In June 2010, Festo introduced its high-speed H‑gantry at Intersolar Europe in Munich, the world’s largest exhibition of photovoltaic and solar thermal products. Festo is a manufacturing company in the field of automation technology and developed this robot to quickly move workpieces. In addition, the company won the Intersolar Award 2010 in the category „Photovoltaic Production Technology“ with this product. In comparison to common Cartesian handling units, the H-gantry is 30 % faster with a speed of 5  m/ s and an acceleration rate of 50  m/s2, even though the procurement costs are similar. Festo had not just developed the H-gantry for moving solar wafers, as it was shown at Intersolar Europe, but it can also be used for the quick and flexible positioning of any small, fragile and low weight mass product.
