CAN in a wood harvester

The RCM Harveri is a compact-sized forestry machine manufactured by RCM Harvester that fells, prunes, measures, cuts, collects, transports and discharges the collected timber by the side of the logging road. The machine is capable of matching the work input of four to five lumberjacks in terms of efficiency and precision. Active stability control always keeps the machine and its payload stable. The vehicle can maneuver between trees in the forest and does not require purpose-built tracks. It can access soft and wet terrains inaccessible to large and heavy harvesters and does not leave tire tracks in the soil. The vehicle is remotely controllable via a remote display so that the operator can observe the machine and harvester head movements safely from a distance. Thanks to CAN communication technology used for controlling the boom, harvester head and driving, guiding parameters are easy to customize to serve the driver’s needs. The control system controls all the functions of the machine and informs of any possible fault-situations straight to the wireless remote display of the remote control. The vehicle is equipped with Epec’s 4W Herman control and measuring system for harvesters. It consists of the four separate control system units (display, cabin, head and hub units) as well as handles and the programming wheel for the display. The units are connected together via CAN.
