Maritime devices

CAN-connectable devices for maritime applications require approval by related national or international organizations (e.g. Lloyds). They have to fulfill the applicable standards for packaging and environmental behavior. In many maritime applications, redundant communication interfaces are required. This includes a redundant network management.
CANopen provides a specified bus-line redundancy and the “flying NMT master” functionality in the CiA 302 series of additional CANopen application layer specification. The CANopen framework for maritime devices is described in CiA 307.
