Process automation systems
In continuous production lines, CAN is used as network to link process automation sub-systems. This includes food and beverage production as well as chemical production lines and biological fermenters. In these applications, CAN is used as embedded network as well as an open network. CANopen and DeviceNet are the standardized application layer for this kind of application. For explosive environments, the CiA 103 intrinsically safe physical layer is available.
